Moscow, January 29 (Xinhua) — Russia, as part of the agreements reached in Istanbul, handed over 1,000 bodies of fallen Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen to Ukraine and received 38 bodies of fallen Russian soldiers. This was announced on Thursday by Vladimir Medinsky, aide to the Russian president and head of the Russian delegation at the talks.
"As part of the Istanbul agreements, the bodies of 1,000 fallen Ukrainian soldiers have been handed over to Ukraine. The bodies of 38 fallen Russian soldiers have been handed over to Russia," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Since the beginning of 2025, Moscow and Kyiv have held a series of meetings in Istanbul. The parties agreed to continue indefinite medical exchanges of seriously wounded and sick personnel. Furthermore, Russia expressed its willingness to transfer the bodies of fallen Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers to Ukraine.
