BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday responded to a letter from veterans of the Zimbabwean national liberation struggle.

In his message, he noted that in their youth, the veterans dedicated themselves to the great cause of national liberation, left their homelands and established deep friendship and camaraderie with China in the struggle.

To this day, they remain deeply committed to China-Zimbabwe and China-Africa friendship, which is deeply touching, the Chinese President said.

He emphasized that 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and African countries, and is also the Year of China-Africa People-to-People Exchanges. According to the Chinese leader, over the past 70 years, China has remained a good comrade and partner to Africa in its quest for national liberation, development, and rejuvenation.

By respecting and supporting each other, China and its African friends have weathered difficult times together and embarked on a new path of modernization together, Xi Jinping noted, adding that China is willing to use the implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FCAC) as an opportunity to work with its African partners to develop traditional friendship and build an even brighter future for China-Africa relations.

The Chinese leader also expressed hope that the veterans would inspire more African youth to devote themselves to the cause of developing China-Zimbabwe and China-Africa friendship.

Since its founding, the People's Republic of China has strongly supported Africa in its struggle against imperialism and colonialism and in its quest for national liberation.

Recently, veterans of the national liberation struggle in Zimbabwe sent a letter to President Xi Jinping, expressing gratitude for China's invaluable support for Zimbabwe's national liberation and highly commending the brilliant achievements of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people under the leadership of President Xi Jinping in the new era.

The veterans expressed pride in the all-weather Zimbabwean-Chinese community with a shared destiny, vowing to dedicate themselves to developing friendship between the two countries.
