By the end of 2025, 509 artificial structures with a total length of nearly 34,000 linear meters were commissioned on the regional and local road network as part of the "Infrastructure for Life" national project. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
"A modern and safe road network is impossible without reliable bridges and overpasses. Last year, too, saw intensive work on these complex but important engineering projects. In 2025, under the "Infrastructure for Life" national project alone, 509 structures, totaling approximately 34,000 linear meters, were commissioned on the regional and local road network. Taking into account all federally funded programs, 575 structures, totaling 38,400 linear meters, were commissioned. Many of these were completed ahead of contract deadlines. I thank all regions for their productive work," said Marat Khusnullin.
The growing number of vehicles significantly increases the load on the road network. Therefore, there is a need for both the construction of modern artificial structures and the modernization of existing ones.
"New bridges and overpasses redistribute traffic flows, eliminate congestion, and provide a new impetus for regional development. Last year, a total of 600 linear meters of artificial structures were built under the federal project 'Regional and Local Road Network.' On average, their service life is 50 years. Modernizing existing structures is also important. By 2025, 4,100 linear meters of bridges and overpasses were reconstructed and 29,200 linear meters were repaired, including major overhauls," noted Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin.
Large-scale construction and installation works will continue into the new road season.
"In 2026, under the national project 'Infrastructure for Life,' we plan to build, reconstruct, and repair, including major overhauls, over 400 bridges and overpasses on the regional and local road network. When selecting projects for inclusion in the work program, factors such as the transport and operational condition of the structures, traffic volume, and social significance are taken into account. Furthermore, many projects where work began in 2025 or earlier will be completed in the upcoming road season," said Kairat Tursunbekov, Deputy Head of the Federal Road Agency.
One of the largest projects of the past year was the construction of a unique bridge across the Ob River near Surgut in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugra. The project included the construction of a bridge across the Ob River, approximately 1,800 linear meters long, as well as three overpasses, four small bridges, and over 43 kilometers of roads.
The bridge has taken on the bulk of the traffic on two federal transport corridors: Tyumen-Surgut-Salekhard and Perm-Khanty-Mansiysk-Nizhnevartovsk-Tomsk, allowing transit traffic to bypass the city. It will also relieve pressure on the existing bridge connecting two major oil and gas producing regions—Yugra and Yamal—with other regions of Russia.
A 59.2-meter bridge has been built across the Agan River in the Magadan Region. The structure is located at the 29th kilometer of the Palatka-Kulu-Neksikan highway. The road connects the regional center with remote settlements and gold mining operations. Therefore, this small bridge plays a vital role in the development of the region's transport infrastructure. High-quality materials were used in its construction, extending the structure's service life and withstanding temperature fluctuations in permafrost conditions.
In the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, a bridge over the Terek River was reconstructed at the 3rd kilometer of the bypass road around the village of Nogir. During the reconstruction, which began in 2024, crews laid two layers of asphalt concrete pavement, updated utility lines, and installed a modern lighting system. Sidewalks and metal barrier fencing were installed. In addition, approaches to the bridge from the villages of Mikhailovskoye and Nogir were landscaped.
A bridge over the Dzhida River has undergone extensive repairs in the village of Mikhailovka in the Zakamensky District of the Republic of Buryatia. The structure provides transportation links between the village of Mikhailovka, currently home to approximately 900 people, and local farms. Specialists dismantled the worn-out structures of the old bridge and built a new structure virtually from scratch. Thirteen supports were installed, along with a superstructure, waterproofing, and pavement. Bridge builders also constructed approaches, pedestrian sidewalks, lighting, and installed barriers and guardrails.
Work continues on transitional projects this year. For example, construction of a bridge across the Katun River near the village of Platovo is underway in the Mayminsky District of the Altai Republic. Construction is 76.7% complete. The bridge will improve accessibility to the villages of Platovo and Podgornoye. The superstructure was pushed in last year, and the supports were erected prior to that. The sublayer of asphalt concrete pavement has been installed on the bridge and approaches, and utilities, drainage systems, and lighting have been installed. Pedestrian barriers, guardrails, and safety features will be installed this year. Work on the bridge is scheduled to be fully completed and open to traffic in May 2026.
