Moscow, January 27 (Xinhua) – Russia and Ukraine are actively discussing the number of prisoners to be included in the new prisoner exchange, Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova announced on Tuesday.
"Active dialogue is underway today regarding the number of individuals to be included in the exchange and organizational matters. I hope that this [prisoner exchange] will take place in the near future," TASS quoted her as saying.
T. Moskalkova also spoke about the ongoing negotiations regarding the return of 12 residents of the Kursk region held there from Ukrainian territory. "We are currently conducting extensive, serious negotiations regarding another exchange: the return of the Kursk residents and the repatriation of those Ukrainian citizens whom our military rescued from shelling and who are now in Russia," she said.
According to her, negotiations had previously succeeded in repatriating more than 100 residents of the Kursk region who had been evacuated to Ukrainian territory. "Unfortunately, 12 remain in Sumy," added T. Moskalkova.
