OTTAWA, January 26 (Xinhua) — Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said Monday that a Royal Canadian Navy patrol ship will be on site during the opening of Canada's consulate in Greenland next week, local media reported.
A. Anand spoke with The Canadian Press ahead of her visit to Greenland's capital, Nuuk, where she will officially open a new consulate.
According to the statement, the A. Anand will be joined by an Arctic patrol vessel, symbolizing Canada's growing cooperation with other Arctic countries.
The Canadian Foreign Minister's visit to Greenland comes after US President Donald Trump recently softened his demands for the US to acquire the Danish territory. He threatened to impose tariffs on European countries that oppose the plan and hinted at the possible use of military force, The Canadian Press reports.
