BEIJING, January 26 (Xinhua) — On January 23, a China-Europe train loaded with 55 containers of goods left the Ereenhot railway checkpoint in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This marks the 22,000th time such trains have passed through the border crossing since 2013, when international freight train services between China and Europe were launched, the Neimenggu Ribao daily reported on Monday.

The Ereenhot checkpoint is a key hub in the central corridor of international railway freight transport between China and Europe, as well as in the China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor.

Thanks to advantages such as safety, environmental friendliness, and fast cargo delivery, the China-Europe freight train service has become an international logistics brand, widely recognized by countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. By 2025, more than 3,900 trains of this type had passed through the Erenhot checkpoint, and the volume of freight transported by them exceeded 5 million tons.

The number of China-Europe rail routes passing through the Ereenhot crossing has now increased to 75, up from two at the initial launch of such services. These routes cover over 70 cities or stations in more than 10 countries, including Germany and Poland, as well as over 60 cities in 24 provincial-level regions in China.

The range of goods carried by trains in this category is becoming increasingly diversified. Previously, it primarily included metals, chemicals, clothing, footwear, and headwear, but now the share of high-value-added goods, such as Chinese-made automobiles and mechanical equipment, is growing year after year.
