BEIJING, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) — The Office of the State Council Earthquake Relief Headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management on Monday issued a Level 4 emergency response after a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Debu County, Gannan Tibet Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China's Gansu Province at 2:56 p.m.

The epicenter of the tremors was recorded at a point with coordinates of 34.06 degrees north latitude and 103.25 degrees east longitude. The hypocenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers.

A task force was dispatched to the affected area to support local earthquake relief efforts.

Instructions were given to promptly check the situation and the extent of the damage, conduct a comprehensive assessment of the consequences of the disaster, and prepare in advance for emergency rescue operations.

The State Integrated Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the epicenter of the earthquake to conduct an inspection.
