Beijing, January 25 (Xinhua) — Beijing authorities plan to further consolidate their status as China's city with the longest subway network by 2026, while prioritizing convenient commuting. Mayor Yin Yong announced this Sunday while delivering a work report on the city's government at the annual session of the city's People's Congress (NPC).
Last year, three new metro lines opened in Beijing, increasing the city's metro line length by 30 km. Thus, the Chinese capital's metro, with a total length of lines in operation reaching 909 km, retained its status as the most extensive urban rail transit system in China, the report notes.
Yin Yong noted that the city aims to increase the length of metro lines by more than 40 kilometers by 2026 and to increase the share of transfers to bus and rail transport within a 50-meter radius from 91 percent in 2025 to 93 percent. -0-
