YANGON, January 25 (Xinhua) — Voting in all three stages of Myanmar's multiparty general democratic elections concluded on Sunday afternoon. The final round of voting took place in approximately 60 towns and cities that day.

Multiparty general democratic elections in Myanmar were held in three stages. The first stage was held in 102 towns and villages on December 28 last year, and the second stage took place in 100 towns and villages on January 11 this year.

According to the Union Election Commission, around 5,000 candidates from 57 political parties competed for seats in the Assembly of People's Representatives of the Union Assembly (lower house of parliament), the Assembly of Nationalities (upper house of parliament), as well as in regional and state parliaments.

Zaw Min Tun, head of the information team at Myanmar's National Defence and Security Council, said the country's parliament would convene in March and the new government would take office in April.
