Washington, January 24 (Xinhua) — The U.S. military on Friday struck a ship suspected of carrying drugs in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. This is the first known strike of its kind since the U.S. attack on Venezuela on January 3.

As a result, two people died, and one survived, the US Southern Command reported on the social media site X.

"Intelligence confirmed that the vessel was following known drug trafficking routes in the eastern Pacific Ocean and was transporting drugs," the command said.

Since September last year, the Pentagon has sunk more than 30 suspected drug ships in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, killing more than 110 people. –0–
