Beijing, January 23 (Xinhua) — In recent years, trade and economic cooperation between China and the United Kingdom has been steadily growing, and the two sides should continuously deepen trade and investment cooperation, adhering to win-win cooperation, Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Lin Ji stated on Thursday.
Lin Ji, who is also China's deputy representative for international trade negotiations, made the announcement while chairing a roundtable for British-invested enterprises. The event was attended by Lewis Neil, head of the British Trade Mission to China, and representatives of 30 British-invested enterprises and business associations, including the China-Britain Business Council and HSBC, according to a statement on the Chinese Ministry of Commerce website on Friday.
Lin Ji stated that China-UK economic and trade cooperation has demonstrated stability and vitality in recent years, with the industrial advantages of the two sides complementing each other.
He added that the two sides should leverage the role of trade and economic ties as a stabilizing factor and driving force in Sino-British relations and jointly uphold a fair and reasonable international trade and economic order.
According to Lin Ji, the Chinese economy is making steady progress, offering ample development opportunities for foreign-invested enterprises. He noted that during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), China will prioritize expanding openness in the service sector, and the country invites British companies to seize opportunities and increase investment in China in areas such as consumption, green transition, and scientific and technological innovation.
The Deputy Minister of Commerce also added that China will work with the UK to deepen cooperation in the services sector and create new growth areas in bilateral trade and economic relations.
L. Neil, for his part, noted that trade and economic ties are extremely important for British-Chinese relations in general.
Representatives of British-owned companies at the roundtable noted that China's market potential remains enormous and its business environment continues to improve. They added that the 15th Five-Year Plan further strengthens their confidence in long-term investment and operations in China.
