BEIJING, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) — Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson He Yongqian on Thursday welcomed new trade agreements between China and Canada on electric vehicles exported from China, calling them a "positive step in the right direction."

She made the statement in response to a question regarding the agreements on electric vehicles and rapeseed reached by the two countries.

Under the amended agreement, Canada will provide China with an annual quota of 49,000 electric vehicles. Vehicles included in this quota will be subject to duties at the most-favored-nation tariff rate of 6.1 percent. They will also be exempt from the 100 percent additional tariff, and the quota will increase annually by a specified percentage.

Regarding rapeseed, He Yongqian noted that China always advocates resolving trade disputes through dialogue and consultation, and will fully take into account Canada's reasonable demands within the established rules and make a final decision based on facts and evidence.

She expressed confidence that these efforts will play a positive role in deepening trade and industrial cooperation between China and Canada, as well as improving the well-being of the peoples of the two countries. -0-
