MEXICO CITY, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed her government's commitment to support Cuba on Wednesday, saying oil supplies to the island would continue as part of a humanitarian aid policy aimed at improving the living conditions of the Cuban people.

"If Mexico can help improve living conditions in Cuba, we will certainly do so. This is a relationship with the Cuban people, who are living in very difficult circumstances," she said during her morning press conference.

The President noted that aid to Cuba goes beyond ideology and is standard policy of previous administrations.

"Mexico maintains relations with Cuba under every government because it does so for the Cuban people. When a country is under a strict embargo, people experience hardship," she emphasized.

K. Sheinbaum confirmed that the aid “is a matter of Mexican foreign policy and reflects the character of Mexicans, and there is no reason why it should stop.” –0–
