Moscow, January 22 (Xinhua) – A final settlement in the Middle East is only possible with a fully functioning Palestinian state. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this Thursday during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
"Our approach to the issues of Palestine and the Middle East settlement is principled and not opportunistic," the Russian leader noted.
Vladimir Putin and Mahmoud Abbas held talks in the Kremlin. During the meeting, the leaders discussed the development of bilateral ties in trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres, as well as the situation in the Middle East, with a focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip.
"We continue to work in the humanitarian sphere, in particular, we continue to train personnel for Palestine: this year, 150 Palestinian young people are studying and will continue to study at universities and other educational institutions in Russia," Vladimir Putin said.
Russia provided humanitarian aid during the most difficult times of the Gaza crisis, he added.
