Vladivostok, January 21 (Xinhua) — Only two Amur tiger attacks on humans occurred in Russia in 2025, out of a total of 22 such incidents since 2010. TASS reported this on Wednesday, citing the press service of the Amur Tiger Center.
In 2025, two cases were recorded in Primorsky Krai. This is significantly fewer than the number of attacks on people by brown and Himalayan bears, as well as dogs.
In total, from 2010 to 2024, 20 cases of Amur tiger attacks on humans were recorded, an average of 1.4 per year, resulting in 13 injuries and seven deaths. Of these, 18 attacks were provoked by humans (not always the victims), primarily due to the consequences of illegal tiger hunting. In two cases, the cause could not be determined because the predator was not removed from the wild, preventing its examination.
