Harbin, January 21 (Xinhua) — The China-SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Winter Sports Demonstration Zone International Guest Short Track Speed Skating Tournament kicked off Wednesday at the Qitaihe Sports Center in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province. The three-day competition will feature 320 athletes from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, India, Belarus, and other countries and regions.
The event is reportedly being held to promote winter sports exchanges within the China-SCO framework. Men's short track speed skating competitions will include the 500-, 1000-, and 1500-meter distances, as well as women's races and a mixed medley relay.
In recent years, Qitaihe City has been actively promoting the integration of competitions with cultural tourism, the modernization of the winter sports industry, and the creation of an international sports and cultural exchange platform to promote the high-quality development of winter sports.
