BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) — The country's civil aviation sector is expected to see a record 95 million passenger trips during the upcoming "chunyun" (Chinese New Year) holiday, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said.

During the 40-day travel rush that begins on February 2 and runs until March 13, the average daily passenger traffic in civil aviation is expected to reach 2.38 million, Wang Weijun, deputy director of the CAAC's Department of Transportation, said at a press conference on Monday.

According to him, during this period, the civil aviation sector plans to operate an average of 19,400 flights per day, which will be 5 percent more than in the same period last year.

Wang Weijun attributed the sharp increase in air travel to factors such as the integrated development of aviation and tourism, the extended Spring Festival holiday, and the simplification of cross-border travel. Popular tourist routes include northern ice and snow holidays, warm southern resorts, and international outbound and inbound travel.

The official noted that to meet the growing demand for air travel, the CAAC will take targeted measures to manage flight safety, increase flight capacity, and improve the quality of passenger service.

The civil aviation system will make every effort to ensure safe, convenient and comfortable flights for passengers, and maintain smooth and efficient air cargo transportation channels during the Chunyun period, Wang Weijun added. -0-
