Almaty, January 19 (Xinhua) — Kazakhstan's oil producer Tengizchevroil (TCO) on Monday suspended oil production at the Tengiz and Korolevskoye fields following a fire that broke out the day before.
A fire broke out between two transformers at the Tengiz oil field in the Atyrau region on Sunday morning. The fire was extinguished, and there were no injuries.
On Monday, TCO reported that a fire had broken out that affected some power distribution systems at production facilities, resulting in the suspension of oil production at two fields.
TCO technical services are working to determine the root cause of the incident. According to the company, the Tengiz field and all production facilities remain safe and secure.
TCO produces oil and gas in the Atyrau region of western Kazakhstan and develops the large Tengiz oil field near the Caspian Sea. Its shareholders include Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company KazMunayGas, the American companies Chevron and ExxonMobil, and Russia's Lukoil.
