Sofia, January 19 (Xinhua) — Bulgarian President Rumen Radev announced on Monday that he will submit his resignation on January 20. This step will clear the way for him to participate in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections.

"Tomorrow I will resign from the post of President of the Republic of Bulgaria," R. Radev announced in an address to the Bulgarian people.

Having made it clear that he would participate in the snap parliamentary elections, R. Radev noted: "We have a battle ahead for the future of the Fatherland, and I believe that we will fight it together with all of you—worthy, inspired, and steadfast. We are ready, we are capable, and we will succeed."

According to the Bulgarian Constitution, the resignation of the president must be approved by the Constitutional Court. –0–
