BEIJING, January 19 (Xinhua) — The Industrial Safety Commission of the State Council has decided to take over the investigation into the explosion at a factory in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the Ministry of Emergency Management said.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 PM on Sunday at Baogang United Steel's sheet rolling mill in Baotou. As of 6:00 AM on Monday, the explosion left two people dead, eight missing, and 84 hospitalized.
The aforementioned ministry instructed local authorities to take a scientific approach to organizing search and rescue operations, prevent secondary incidents, and make every effort to treat the injured in order to minimize casualties. It also called for a swift investigation into the cause of the accident and emphasized the need to learn lessons from the incident to prevent similar accidents in the future.
A ministry task force was dispatched to the scene to lead rescue efforts. -0-
