Hohhot, January 18 (Xinhua) — Two people were killed, five were missing, and 66 others were hospitalized after an explosion at a factory in western Baotou City in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, local authorities said.

The explosion reportedly occurred at around 3:00 pm on Sunday at Baogang United Steel's sheet rolling mill, causing strong tremors in the surrounding area.

As of 5:30 PM Sunday, the Baotou Emergency Management Agency and Fire and Rescue Service reported two deaths and five missing. Sixty-six people were taken to hospitals, three of whom were in serious condition.

Rescue teams from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Baotou City arrived at the scene. The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
