GUANGZHOU, January 17 (Xinhua) — A total of 103 high school students in Foshan, southern China's Guangdong Province, have tested positive for norovirus, local health authorities announced Saturday, adding that there were no reports of critical or fatal cases.
Norovirus, a common cause of acute gastroenteritis, typically causes symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. Recently, students at Xinghui Middle School in Foshan developed symptoms that have been preliminarily confirmed to be caused by norovirus infection.
All 103 infected students are in stable condition. Environmental disinfection measures are being carried out on the school grounds, and students are undergoing medical examinations and attendance checks. Epidemiological testing is also underway.
According to Guangdong provincial disease control authorities, the province's annual norovirus epidemic season begins from October to March next year. -0-
