BEIJING, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) — Separatist forces seeking "Taiwan independence" and opposing the will of the people are doomed to end up in the dustbin of history, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang said at a press conference on Friday.
He made this statement while commenting on the results of a survey conducted in Taiwan, at the media's request. According to the survey, more than 60 percent of respondents do not want to participate in war or see their relatives do so.
The survey results show that the majority of Taiwanese people want peace, development, exchanges and cooperation, not confrontation or conflict, let alone war, he noted.
More and more people are realizing that the Lai Qingde administration is a peace-breaker, a crisis-maker, and a war-monger, he added.
“No one wants to become cannon fodder for the sake of so-called ‘Taiwan independence,’” Zhang Xiaogang continued.
The Taiwan issue, he said, is a purely internal Chinese matter, not open to outside interference. "All options for severe punishment of separatist forces seeking 'Taiwan independence' remain under consideration," he concluded.
