Baghdad, January 16 (Xinhua) — Eight people were killed and two others were injured in a traffic accident in Diyala Province in eastern Iraq on Thursday, provincial road authorities said.

The accident occurred on the highway linking Baghdad with the city of Al-Khalis. The vehicle lost control after a tire punctured, veered into the oncoming lane, and collided with oncoming traffic, according to a statement from the provincial road authority.

“Excessive speed and lack of regular maintenance were the main causes of this accident,” the statement said. –0–
