CARACAS, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) — Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez said on Thursday that the country's government is not afraid to engage in diplomatic relations with the United States following its recent military attack and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
"Let's not be afraid of diplomacy," D. Rodriguez said in her annual State of the Union address.
Highlighting Washington's "historic record" of intervention in Latin American affairs, she said "we are not afraid to confront this diplomatically through political dialogue, as is proper."
The government is developing a “new policy,” D. Rodriguez said, calling on the diplomatic corps accredited in Venezuela to convey the real state of affairs to their governments.
The politician also called for national unity to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity.
She added that if she, as acting president, has to travel to the United States, “I will do it with my head held high.” –0–
