Tbilisi, January 15 (Xinhua) — Georgia's ruling party, Georgian Dream — Democratic Georgia, has filed a formal complaint against the BBC over its publication of defamatory material about Georgian authorities' use of the poisonous substance "kamit" against protesters in Tbilisi. This was announced at a briefing on Thursday by Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

“In accordance with our stated intention, expressed on the same day that the BBC’s defamatory materials were published, we, on behalf of the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party, yesterday filed an official complaint against the BBC,” Sh. Papuashvili emphasized.

According to him, accusations that Georgian authorities allegedly used "kamit" against protesters in Tbilisi are false, unfounded, and slanderous. The parliament speaker noted that Georgian Dream demands a public apology from the BBC and the removal of the film and related materials from relevant platforms.

Sh. Papuashvili emphasized that on December 1, 2025, the BBC, a British publicly funded television network, published a film and other related materials containing grave, damaging, and categorical accusations, including allegations of the Georgian authorities' alleged use of a chemical weapon—"kamit"—from World War I. "These accusations are false, unfounded, and defamatory," he stated.
