BANGKOK, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) — The death toll from a construction crane collapse that derailed a passenger train in northeastern Thailand's Nakhon Ratchasima province has risen to 31, while the number of injured has reached 67, authorities said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when a construction crane being used to build a railway bridge fell onto a train travelling from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani.

Speaking at a press briefing, Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Governor Chaiwat Chungkosum stated that it will take the State Railways of Thailand about a week to clear the wreckage and restore normal service. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said he had instructed relevant agencies to conduct a transparent and comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the accident and prevent its recurrence.
