BEIJING, January 14 (Xinhua) — China's used car market set a new record in 2025, with over 20 million vehicles sold, according to the China Automobile Dealers Association.

In December of last year, the used vehicle re-registration rate, a key indicator of interregional turnover, rose to 34.9 percent, 4.7 percentage points higher than the previous year.

"This has reduced the burden on local used car dealers' inventories," said the association's deputy head, Lo Lei.

Used NEV sales in China are expected to reach 1.6 million units in 2025, accounting for 7.9 percent of total used vehicle sales. This represents a 2.2 percentage point increase compared to the previous year.

Thanks to measures to curb excessive competition in the auto industry, coupled with the wider implementation of trade-in programs for old cars, new car prices are expected to stabilize this year, creating even more favorable conditions for the development of the used car market, according to Luo Lei. -0-
