Moscow, January 14 /Xinhua/ — The Federal Security Service (FSB) in St. Petersburg thwarted an assassination attempt on an employee of a defense industry enterprise commissioned by Kyiv. This was reported by the FSB's Public Relations Center.
"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation prevented a sabotage and terrorist attack planned by Ukrainian special services in St. Petersburg. As a result of these measures, a Russian citizen, born in 1966, was detained. While living in Ukraine, she was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine and trained in sabotage and terrorist activities under the supervision of her handlers," the statement reads.
According to the information received, after arriving in Russia via third countries, the woman attempted to retrieve a firearm and an improvised explosive device from a hiding place in the Smolensk region, intended to kill an employee of a defense industry enterprise in the Leningrad region.
"A Makarov pistol, a homemade explosive device based on a foreign-made plastic explosive, and communications equipment containing correspondence with terrorist coordinators located in Ukraine were confiscated from her," the FSB Public Relations Center reported.
