SEOUL, January 13 (Xinhua) — The final hearing for former South Korean President Yun Suk-yol on charges of plotting a coup took place at the Seoul Central District Court on Tuesday, the Renhap News Agency reported.
The prosecutor's office reportedly plans to announce sentencing recommendations later in the day. The special prosecutor's team is expected to seek one of the three penalties prescribed by law for instigators of sedition: the death penalty, life imprisonment, or life imprisonment without community service.
In January 2025, Yun Seok-yul was charged with rebellion for the imposition of martial law on December 3, 2024. In April 2025, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Korea ruled to accept the impeachment petition against Yun Seok-yul, removing him from office.
