Khartoum, January 12 (Xinhua) — At least 27 people were killed and 73 others wounded on Monday in a drone strike on a military base in the city of Sinja in Sennar state in central Sudan, a government source said.

A source in the Sennar state administration told Xinhua that the attack was carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) and warned that the death toll could rise due to the severity of the injuries sustained by the victims.

According to one eyewitness, the attack targeted the headquarters of the 17th Infantry Division of the Sudanese Armed Forces, as well as nearby power and water supply facilities.

“Simultaneous powerful explosions were heard in the city, accompanied by the sounds of gunfire from Sudanese army anti-aircraft guns,” an eyewitness reported, adding that the injured were taken to several hospitals in the state. –0–
