BEIJING, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) — In 2025, the freight turnover through the Alashankou railway checkpoint (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China) reached a new historical high of 17.86 million tons, an increase of 7.8 percent year-on-year, the Zhongguo Xinwenwang news website reported.
Last year, the Alashankou border crossing, focusing on building a key hub for the Belt and Road Initiative, actively promoted the construction of an "intelligent border crossing," resulting in a continuous increase in cargo traffic.
Through 2025, China exported new energy vehicles, electromechanical products, high-tech products, and daily necessities through the Alashankou Port, while importing raw materials and other goods.
As of early 2026, 128 international China-Europe/Central Asia freight routes, covering 21 countries, pass through the Alashankou railway checkpoint. The range of goods transported by trains of this category exceeds 200 items.
