JIUQUAN, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) — China's spacecraft designed to develop space tourism completed a suborbital test flight on Monday.
With the help of a parachute rescue system, the capsule with the payload landed safely and was delivered to the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.
The flight tests verified technology for slowing down the spacecraft during re-entry and precision control technology for landing, which reportedly paved the way for the future development of space tourism.
The Lihong-1 Y1 spacecraft, developed by CAS Space, is capable of flying at altitudes of up to 120 km. It boasts low launch costs and the ability to recover a payload for experiments.
The Lihong-1 Y1 spacecraft can provide a highly stable and multifunctional experimental environment at altitude for more than 300 seconds, the company said. -0-
