Astana, January 12 (Xinhua) — Kazakhstan's gross domestic product increased by 6.5 percent year-on-year in January-December 2025, according to preliminary data from the Bureau of National Statistics. This was reported by the Kazinform news agency on Monday.

As noted, at the direction of the head of state, the government is taking systemic measures to diversify the economy. Industry, transport, construction, and trade contributed the most to economic growth last year.

The industrial production index for 2025 was 7.4%. Positive industrial production dynamics were recorded in several regions of the country, with the manufacturing sector demonstrating steady growth of 6.4%. This growth was driven by an increase in food production by 8.1%, petroleum products by 5.9%, chemical products by 9.8%, metallurgy by 1.2%, and mechanical engineering by 12.9%.

Growth in the transport and warehousing sector reached 20.4 percent by the end of the year, driven by an increase in freight traffic, primarily by road and rail, as well as an increase in passenger traffic and related transport services.

The construction industry grew by 15.9 percent, driven by the implementation of infrastructure and social projects. From January to December 2025, 20.1 million square meters of housing were commissioned, a 5.1 percent increase compared to the previous year.

The trade sector showed growth of 8.9 percent during the reporting period, with wholesale trade playing the main role, accounting for more than two-thirds of the industry's total volume.

Growth was also recorded in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries—up 5.9 percent, including due to increases in crop production and livestock farming. Information and communications grew by 3.6 percent.

In general, the dynamics of macroeconomic indicators reflect the sustainable development of key sectors of the Kazakh economy. –0–
