Moscow, January 11 (Xinhua) – There was no presidential security detail with Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, when they were kidnapped, Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov said on Saturday.
"I can tell you straight: the situation is such that at the time of his capture, there was essentially no one near him. "Near" means in the immediate vicinity," the diplomat said on Soloviev Live.
The diplomat also noted that at the time of the Venezuelan president's kidnapping, the US Army was firing "such a powerful, hurricane-like barrage that, in essence, they were firing at anything that moved."
