Maseru, January 11 (Xinhua) — China and Lesotho reaffirmed their commitment to elevating their bilateral strategic partnership to a higher level and turning it into a model for friendly exchanges and common development among countries with diverse national circumstances and social systems, according to a joint communiqué released Sunday.

The document was released following talks between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Lesotho's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Lejone Mpotjoane in the Lesotho capital Maseru during Wang Yi's visit to the African country from January 10 to 11.

According to the communiqué, the ministers commended the achievements in developing bilateral relations. The parties agreed to provide each other with firm support on issues affecting their core interests and major concerns.

The Lesotho side expressed its support for the four global initiatives put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping and praised them for bringing stability and certainty to a troubled world.

The Lesotho side reaffirmed its firm commitment to the one-China principle and reiterated that there is only one China, Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing all of China. The Chinese side, in turn, welcomed Lesotho's continued progress in its national reform process and expressed support for Lesotho in protecting its national sovereignty, security, and development interests.

The parties emphasized that the advancement of human rights is a common cause for all humanity, and that exchanges and cooperation on human rights must be based on mutual respect and equality. They opposed the politicization, weaponization, and application of double standards in human rights matters, as well as interference in the internal affairs of both countries under the pretext of protecting human rights.

The two foreign ministers noted the significant achievements achieved within the framework of ten China-Africa partnership action programs to jointly advance modernization. The ministers shared the view that the world is currently undergoing accelerated change unseen in a century, and that countries in the Global South are playing an increasingly significant role in international affairs.

The communiqué stated that the two sides reiterated their intention to continue close cooperation to jointly oppose unilateral sanctions, protectionism and economic hegemony, promote the formation of an equitable and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization that benefits everyone, create a more just and reasonable system of global governance, and build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world of lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity.
