St. Petersburg, January 10 (Xinhua) — Heavy snowfall hit St. Petersburg on the night of January 10, with snow depth in the city center reaching 26 cm by Saturday morning. The city's chief weather forecaster, Alexander Kolesov, reported this on his Telegram channel.

He wrote that the wind in the center of St. Petersburg at night reached gusts of 10-12 m/s, while in the waters of the Gulf of Finland and Lake Ladoga, gusts reached 15-20 m/s.

St. Petersburg's municipal services are working hard to combat the storm. 1,031 pieces of equipment and nearly 900 people are working around the clock to clear the city, according to the city's beautification committee's official Telegram channel.

According to the online flight information board at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport, flights to Tomsk, Volgograd, Orenburg, Moscow, and other cities were delayed due to inclement weather. More than 40 flights were canceled.
