Tehran, January 10 (Xinhua) — The Iranian military vowed on Saturday to defend national interests, protect strategic infrastructure, and public property amid ongoing protests, and called on Iranians to unite to "thwart the enemy's plans," Iran's state broadcaster IRIB reported.

In its statement, the military accused Israel and "hostile terrorist organizations" of "attempting to undermine order and peace in cities and disrupt public safety through another plot" and of "seeking to provoke a new uprising under the pretext of supporting the Iranian people." The statement called on the public to remain vigilant and unite to "defeat the enemy's plans," and emphasized that Iran "is in a state of war."

As noted, the army, together with other armed forces "under the command" of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will track the enemy's movements and resolutely defend national interests, while simultaneously protecting strategic infrastructure and public property.

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported that Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani said Israel must be held accountable for the current situation in Iran.
