TOKYO, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) — Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jianghao on Thursday rejected a representation made by Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Takehiro Funakoshi regarding China's tightening controls on the export of dual-use goods to Japan.
According to a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Wu Jianghao stated that these measures are aimed at protecting China's national security and interests, as well as fulfilling its international obligations, including non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. According to the ambassador, they are fully justified, rational, and legal.
China's position has been clearly stated, and relevant measures will be implemented in due course, Wu Jianghao added.
On January 6, China announced a ban on the export of any dual-use items that could be used by Japanese military users, by Japan for military purposes, or by any other end-users involved in or contributing to Japan's military buildup.
