Moscow, January 7 (Xinhua) — Russia demands that the United States ensure humane and dignified treatment of Russian citizens aboard the Marinera oil tanker and respect their rights and interests, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
The department's statement indicated that Moscow is closely monitoring reports of the landing of American troops on the Mariner.
"Considering the incoming information regarding the presence of Russian citizens among the crew, we demand that the American side ensure their humane and dignified treatment, strictly respect their rights and interests, and not impede their speedy return to their homeland," the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
Earlier on Wednesday, the US European Command announced an operation to seize an oil tanker in the Atlantic Ocean.
