Mexico, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Tuesday rejected any form of foreign interference in the country's affairs following U.S. President Donald Trump's recent proposal to send American troops to combat drug trafficking.

During her daily morning press conference, K. Sheinbaum advocated for dialogue and bilateral cooperation within the framework of shared responsibility and continued respect for national sovereignty as a way to effectively combat drug trafficking.

According to her, Mexico maintains a firm, principled position, without closing channels of communication with Washington.

"We prioritize dialogue above all else. We have our own position, we have our own principles, but we always strive for dialogue with the US government," she said.

She insisted that the appropriate way to work together was to strengthen diplomatic channels and promote agreements based on mutual respect and principles of international cooperation.

K. Sheinbaum also emphasized that Mexico has taken responsibility for combating organized crime, but the United States must also do its part to combat illegal arms trafficking, drug trafficking, and money laundering on its territory. –0–
