Ürümqi, January 7 (Xinhua) — By the end of 2025, the number of people entering and leaving the China-Kazakhstan International Boundary Cooperation Center (ICBC) Khorgos reached a record high of over 9.99 million, an increase of 33.3 percent year-on-year, according to data from the Khorgos ICBC customs office.
As the first cross-border economic cooperation zone jointly established by China and Kazakhstan, the Khorgos International Centre for Broadcasting (ICBC) in Khorgos, a city in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (Northwest China), draws on the advantages of a visa-free regime and duty-free trade policy to attract a steady flow of people all year round.
To accommodate growing passenger traffic, this customs office is actively promoting the development of an intelligent passenger screening system. By implementing convenient measures, such as 24/7 pre-booking, and using advanced technologies, including intelligent temperature measurement, facial recognition, and contactless terahertz scanning, the efficiency of customs clearance and border control is constantly improving. This has enabled the effective implementation of a "15-second" contactless customs process for passengers.
The Khorgos International Centre of Boundary Cooperation, which opened in April 2012, operates in China and Kazakhstan. On the Chinese side, this center houses over 2,000 retail outlets and over 200 duty-free shops, selling over 1,000 goods from over 40 countries.
