WASHINGTON, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Venezuela will donate 30 million to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States, with the proceeds "used for the benefit of the people of Venezuela and the United States."

Oil will be sold at market prices, and revenues will be controlled personally by D. Trump as US President, he wrote on the social network Truth Social.

Venezuelan oil will be delivered directly to unloading docks in the United States, D. Trump said, noting that US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has been tasked with implementing this plan.

As a reminder, on Saturday the United States launched a military strike on Venezuela and forcibly captured its president, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife, who were taken to New York.

Following this operation, the US administration faced widespread criticism and protests. Many view Washington's actions as illegal and believe they are primarily motivated by a desire to gain control of Venezuela's vast oil reserves.

D. Trump mentioned the word "oil" about 20 times at a press conference Saturday following the military operation. On Monday, he told NBC News that Washington could subsidize projects by American oil companies to restore Venezuela's energy infrastructure.
