WASHINGTON, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump's administration plans to freeze $10 billion in federal funding for five states with Democratic governors — Minnesota, California, New York, Illinois and Colorado — amid alleged welfare fraud.
According to the New York Times, funding, including child care subsidies, social services, and cash assistance for low-income families, was frozen due to allegations of widespread fraudulent practices in the states concerned following the discovery of a major welfare scheme in Minnesota. No evidence of fraud in other regions was cited.
"The funding freeze could jeopardize programs for hundreds of thousands of low-income families in five states," the article said. -0-
