SEOUL, January 6 (Xinhua) — Police in the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Tuesday raided the office of the special prosecutor investigating impeached former President Yun Seok-yul, who is accused of attempted coup and other crimes, the Renhap News Agency reported.

The Special Investigative Team of the National Police Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan sent investigators to the office to seize materials related to allegations that the Ministry of Justice attempted to secure detention space in correctional facilities during the brief imposition of martial law in the country in December 2024.

Police said the current search was related to charges brought against the former head of the Justice Ministry's correctional service for carrying out important tasks in organizing the mutiny.

The special investigation team continued its investigation into former President Yoon Seok-yel's attempted coup and other crimes after the investigations conducted by special prosecutors concluded.

A special prosecutor has found that the former head of the correctional service checked the capacity of pretrial detention centers in the Seoul metropolitan area during the imposition of martial law on the orders of former Justice Minister Park Sung-jae, who is accused of aiding the rebellion.

Yun Seok-yeol declared a state of emergency on the night of December 3, 2024, but it was lifted a few hours later by the National Assembly (parliament) of the Republic of Korea.

Last April, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan upheld the impeachment petition against Yun Seok-yul, officially removing him from office.

In January 2025, the ousted leader of the state was arrested on charges of organizing a rebellion. –0–
