Baku, January 6 (Xinhua) — In an interview with local television channels on Monday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called the strategic partnership with China a major event and a success of national diplomacy. This was reported on the head of state's official website.
I. Aliyev noted that the signing of the Joint Declaration on the Establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and China during his state visit to China last year gave a significant impetus to the development of bilateral economic ties and the intensification of contacts between government and business structures.
According to the president, trade turnover between the two countries has reached a record high, exceeding $4 billion. Chinese companies have begun actively investing in Azerbaijan, particularly in the renewable energy sector, including the construction of solar and wind power plants, a solar panel manufacturing plant, and the assembly of electric buses, the Azerbaijani president noted.
The interview focused specifically on transport and logistics. I. Aliyev emphasized that China is funding the construction of a new railway to the Caspian Sea via Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, which will increase freight traffic to Azerbaijan.
"The volume of cargo heading to the Caspian, and therefore to Azerbaijan, will increase. And along with Central Asian countries, additional cargo from China will naturally make the East-West route, the Middle Corridor, fully operational," he emphasized.
According to the head of state, Azerbaijan intends to continue playing the role of facilitator and major transport hub, distributing cargo flows from China in several directions, including western, southern, and northern. –0–
