BEIJING, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) — The Beijing government will aim to grow its AI industry to over 1 trillion yuan (about 142.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the next two years, cementing its role as a global AI innovation hub, according to the "Action Plan to Build Beijing into a New Heights in Artificial Intelligence (AI)" released Monday.
In accordance with the aforementioned document, the authorities plan to implement nine major initiatives targeting various sectors of the artificial intelligence industry, with an emphasis on technological innovation.
The plan will prioritize technological breakthroughs through coordinated research efforts, improved data quality, and expanded application across sectors. It also includes measures to attract talented professionals, mobilize long-term capital, and support open-source ecosystems.
Yang Xiuling, head of the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, said other goals include building a domestic AI computing cluster with a capacity of more than 100,000 chips, the emergence of more than 10 new companies in the industry, and more than 20 unicorn firms.
These measures, she said, are designed to accelerate the transformation of China's capital into a new global hub for AI innovation.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development (2021-2025), China has placed innovation at the forefront of its modernization, building one of the world's most advanced AI ecosystems and empowering sectors ranging from manufacturing and healthcare to transportation and finance.
According to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), the country's domestic AI sector is experiencing steady growth. As of September 2025, the industry had more than 5,300 enterprises, accounting for 15 percent of the global total. -0-
