Beijing, January 5 (Xinhua) — China is pleased to see that the ceasefire consensus between Cambodia and Thailand is gradually being implemented and that the 18 detained Cambodian military personnel have safely returned home, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday.

Answering a question on the matter at a daily press briefing, the diplomat said China hopes Cambodia and Thailand will continue to look to the future and move forward, strengthen dialogue and communication, jointly achieve a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire, gradually restore trust and improve relations.

“This is in the fundamental and long-term interests of the peoples of Cambodia and Thailand, and also meets the expectations of the international community,” Lin Jian added.

The official also noted that China will continue to implement the Global Security Initiative, follow the vector determined by the three countries at the meeting in Yuxi City, Yunnan Province (southwest China), and actively promote the two countries' efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire and improve relations through the Asian path, so as to make due contributions to maintaining peace and stability in the region, as well as advancing the building of a community of shared future with neighboring countries. -0-
