TEHRAN, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei on Monday said the United States should release Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and condemned Washington's "illegal" actions against Venezuela's sovereignty.
Speaking at a weekly press conference in Tehran, E. Baghaei accused the United States of kidnapping N. Maduro and his wife during a military operation in Venezuela, calling the move a violation of international law.
"The kidnapping of the country's president and his wife is nothing to be proud of," said E. Bagaí. "This is a completely illegal act, and, as officials and the people of Venezuela emphasize, their president must be released."
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman called on UN member states to respond to the flagrant violations of international law, warning that such behavior will not stop there.
