BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) — Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien in Beijing on Monday.
Han Zheng praised J. Chrétien's long-standing contribution to the development of China-Canada relations. He noted that during the two leaders' meeting last year, important consensus was reached and strategic guidance was provided for improving and developing bilateral relations, opening a new chapter in the relationship between China and Canada.
The two countries have broad common interests and ample space for cooperation, the Chinese vice president said, adding that China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Canada to promote the healthy, stable and sustainable development of China-Canada relations based on equality and mutual respect.
For his part, Jean Chrétien praised the dynamic development of relations between Canada and China, noting that the two countries' economies are highly complementary and that bilateral relations have broad prospects. The former Canadian Prime Minister expressed his readiness to continue to actively promote the healthy and stable development of Canada-China relations.
